The engineers of RHI AG develop tailor-made solutions to fulfill specific and complex customer requirements. This can only be done in close collaboration between different internal departments, the Group's external subsidiary companies worldwide and with its customers. As the projects combine a vast array of engineering competence and knowledge of the customer's processes, a powerful collaborative infrastructure is necessary to make global teamwork possible.
To support its growth strategy, RHI AG assessed its current collaboration infrastructure and identified a number of deficiencies. Sharing large files was very difficult and ineffective and the existing information databases were unable to cope with the large international scale of collaboration that was required. Also, databases and Web applications were not horizontally integrated across all departments, limiting the extent to which colleagues and external contributors could work together on key projects. It soon became clear that a Web-based tool would be necessary to enable full internal and external collaboration.
Vignette Collaboration was identified as the solution that best met RHI AG's requirements as its pre-packed forms, workspaces and mailing capabilities guaranteed short and smooth implementation cycles. Vignette Collaboration requires little administration, while offering support for RHI's Oracle and MS SQL Server infrastructure, meeting the company's ease-of-use requirement.
The Vignette-based system effectively delivers fast communication and information access on a global scale. The clearly predefined structure of reporting and updating the system makes it easy to enter information and to read, leading to a very high level of user adoption so that the business was benefiting from enhanced process efficiencies straight away. Having improved access to all available content helps users avoid making redundant and time-wasting duplicate entries.
