Created from the merger of two large WPP public relations firms, the new Cohn & Wolfe was committed to build an internal system that enabled the sharing of expertise and dynamic interaction among the agencies many groups and teams. Employee collaboration and dialog were the key elements, but this would not be a simple task. The newly formed global agency spanned multiple markets, languages, and cultures.
Working with Vignette, Cohn & Wolfe developed a new kind of online interaction portal for its employees. Like an Intranet, the space provides a way to manage and share case studies, presentations, and the like. But the similarities to an Intranet end there. The new social media space encourages employees to claim their individualism and freely express themselves through profiles, blogs, forums, and wikis.
By enabling more than just collaboration and knowledge sharing, Cohn & Wolfe's Web 2.0 media tool is helping the agency maintain its thought leadership position. Productivity and success have increased and the sense of employee value has grown. The site has taken on a life of its own and is proving the maxim: self-directed talent thrives.
